Dayve Hawk & Nas

8 Jun

Dayve Hawk of Memory Tapes is good and putting remixes together. Following Thurston Moore’s remix of “Celestica” Hawk takes his turn at remixing one of my favorite tracks off the new album, “Suffocation”. [I got it from stereogum]

“Suffocation” (Memory Tapes Remix)

Nas is one of the best rappers currently alive whether you want to admit it or not. And while this is one of his more annoying tracks, it’s still damn good. [I got it from JLM]

“I Can” (9th Wonder Remix)

Can’t Miss Mix

2 Jun

Everyone knows the track, but no one remixed it in the 30 years since it’s come out. It’s Blondie’s “Call Me”. Could you really ask for anything more? [I got it from SquittyBubbler]

Call Me Remix (Better EQ) by TheMessiahDub

Then, homeboy The Very Best, name Esau Mwamwaya, puts his spin on one of the tracks of the year, “Ambling Alp”. [I got it from Hellovegetables]

“Mulomo” (The Very Best Remix of “Ambling Alp”)

Roll Up, This is a Hold Up

A remix of one of the greatest lyricists in one of the greatest lyrical performances of all time? I figure most people would enjoy that. It’s the 7 Minutes of Madness Remix of “Paid in Full” by Eric B. and Rakim. [I got it from Licorice Pizza]

“Paid in Full” (7 Minutes of Madness Cold Cut Remix)

Then there’s a remix of my personal favorite track off the newest Gorillaz album Plastic Beach. “On Melancholy Hill” is serene and calming. It’s the least hip hop influenced track on the album and provides a great break in the middle of everything. It’s full of blowing bass and clinky background noise as well. [I got it from blahblahblahscience]

“On Melancholy Hill” (She is Danger Remix)

Metric System

31 May

We all love Emily Haines of Metric. She’s a talented musician and beautiful to boot. So, let’s listen to some remixes of one of Metric’s tracks remixed.

Two of these are the same track remixed differently, “Help, I’m Alive” redone by 80Kidz and The Twelves. [I got them from Sheenabeaston & Comfortradio]

“Help, I’m Alive” (80Kidz Remix)
“Help, I’m Alive” (The Twelves Remix)

Then there’s the MSTRKRFT remix of “Monster Hospital” which is absolute fire. And who remembers Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park? I do. Well, he also did a remix of “Gold Guns Girls” [I got them from Sheenabeaston. She really likes Metric]

“Monster Hospital” (MSTRKRFT Remix)
“Gold Guns Girls” (Shinoda Remix)

Electrovert

31 May

Depending on how you want to categorize these acts, we got some prototypical electrocution going on in these remixes. First off is the sped up and overtly looped Alex Metric remix of Gorillaz’ “Stylo”. Then there’s the overbearing and warped to all hell Stanley’s Buildup and Basslines remix of Justice’s “Phantom”. Believe me, this thing sounds like trying to start chainsaws that just ain’t having it…that’s a good thing. Then there’s the cooled to a crisp Nite Jewel remix of Dan Snaith’s “Odessa”. All pretty prime real estate remixes. [I got them from Earmilk and Palms Out]

“Stylo” (Alex Metric Remix)

“Phantom” (Stanley’s Buildup and Basslines Remix)

“Odessa” (Nite Jewel Remix)

Blackout Bruises

29 May

Some sped up, some slowed down is the story here. We’ve got three distinctly different remixes. The Miike Snow “Black & Blue” one has that dancified attitude and extra bouncy rhythm. Ra Ra Riot ‘s “Too Too Too Fast” gets the introvert treatment here as the Say Hi remix tones it down a little. And, well, “Sabotage” is given the bombastic bass treatment free of charge as not too much changes, but enough to move your feet. [I got them from Hejven, All Things Go and LFTF]

“Black & Blue” (Savage Skulls Remix)
“Too Too Too Fast” (Say Hi Remix)
“Sabotage” (Alex Metric Remix)

Daily Dosage of Dope

28 May

Kid Cudi does some dope remixes. He took recent track “Dance Yrself Clean” from LCD Soundsystem and used the beat to rap over with his buddy Chip da Ripper. Oh, and Christian Bale’s in the intro too. [I got it from Sunset in The Rear View]

“All Talk”

Here’s another remix featuring a new LCD track. This time it’s “Drunk Girls” remixed by Holy Ghost!. Definitely more dance hall inspired and up beat even through it slows down the lyrics. [I got it from Dailybeatz]

“Drunk Girls” (Holy Ghost! Remix)

Cut Copy is a pretty great electro synthpop duo and Hercules and Love Affair make some quality nu-disco tunes. So let’s mix the two together and make a downright glittery, shimmery remix. [I got it from Red Threat]

“Far Away” (Hercules and Love Affair Remix)
